A Current Monitoring and Over-Current Detection Circuit for Safe Electrical Stimulation

چکیده

This brief presents an integrated solution to over-current protection in neuromuscular stimulators. The proposed approach provides fast detection of a single-fault condition, i.e., unintentional electrode short circuit or malfunction the stimulator, thereby preventing prolonged high-intensity currents from flowing into tissues. In addition, programmable current threshold enables system be also used for monitoring stimulation intensity. was designed 180 nm high-voltage CMOS technology, and its functionality verified by post-layout simulations which safety mechanisms were tested under fault conditions. implementation only occupies area 0.286 mm, making it feasible embedded fully NMES stimulators while providing required patient safety.

Electrical stimulation using kilohertz-frequency alternating current.

Transcutaneous electrical stimulation using kilohertz-frequency alternating current (AC) became popular in the 1950s with the introduction of "interferential currents," promoted as a means of producing depth-efficient stimulation of nerve and muscle. Later, "Russian current" was adopted as a means of muscle strengthening. This article reviews some clinically relevant, laboratory-based studies t...

A highly sensitive wide-range weak current detection circuit for implantable glucose monitoring

A highly sensitive weak current detection circuit for implantable glucose monitoring is presented. The circuit consists of a current splitter, an integrator, a sampling/holding (S/H) circuit, and an 8-bit successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital convertor (ADC). T-switches, source voltage shifting and correlated double sampling (CDS) technology are adopted to reduce the effects...

Methodological Dimensions of Transcranial Brain Stimulation with the Electrical Current in Human

Transcranial current stimulation (TCS) is a neuromodulation method in which the patient is exposed to a mild electric current (direct or alternating) at 1-2 mA, resulting in an increase or a decrease in the brain excitability. This modi.cation in neural activities can be used as a method for functional human brain mapping with causal inferences. This method might also facilitate the treatments ...

Monitoring of Leakage Current for Composite Insulators and Electrical Devices

Electrical insulation is an important part of all electrical systems. The level of insulation safety provided by an insulator depends on the amount of leakage current flowing on its surface. Actually increased leakage current causes a part of high voltage to appear at dead end of insulator. This voltage may sometimes be of order of 1000 to 5000 Volts depending upon weather conditions. Such a le...
